Joy Hohn Announces Run for Senate
Candidate for Minnehaha County – District 9

Hartford, South Dakota, March 28, 2024 – Joy Hohn of rural Hartford, announced today her candidacy for the South Dakota Senate, serving Minnehaha County District 9, including northwestern Sioux Falls, Hartford and Wall Lake.

“People are the priority driving my candidacy and central to my values as a conservative Republican, rooted in faith, family, and freedoms,” said Hohn. “I care deeply for the people of District 9, who deserve an open ear, a transparent process, and a strong voice.”

“While I have been a vocal advocate for personal property rights and empowered local government, I believe many important issues need the voice of the people,” she continued. “As your elected Senator for District 9, I would advocate for protecting your Constitutional rights, limiting taxes and government overreach, and promoting education and healthy families.”

Hohn is a lifelong resident of Minnehaha County where she and her husband, Rod, farm alongside her father, brother, and college-age children raising corn, soybeans, cattle, and buffalo.

“Agriculture is the heart of our livelihood, the fiber of our communities, and key to the economy of our state,” added Hohn. “Growing up on the farm and working in the fields, we were taught responsibility, integrity, and the ‘Golden Rule’ of respecting others.”

Notably the first female airline pilot in South Dakota, Hohn holds certifications as an airline transport pilot, multi-engine flight instructor and authorized check airman. She has logged nearly 13,000 hours of accident and incident-free flying as a Captain and First Officer in her 40-year career. She currently works for Legacy Aviation as a charter pilot, check airman and instructor pilot. Hohn also operates her private contract service, Adele Aire, LLC.

“Flying as a professional pilot with multiple companies throughout my career has enabled me to be steadfast, unwavering and trustworthy,” said Hohn. “At the same time, I’ve had a front-row seat to the importance of commerce, innovation, and business necessary to keep jobs in our state thriving,” she added.

Hohn has been active in Minnehaha County, as a youth mentor, leader, and volunteer for youth organizations, education, and her church. She is a graduate of West Central High School and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Aviation and Business Administration from Augustana College.

“Like South Dakota, District 9 has a unique mix of rural and urban residents. I am eager to listen, learn, and earn your vote and would be honored to be your voice in Pierre,” Hohn concluded.

“Join me in building a stronger South Dakota and future for our children.”
