Hello! I’m Joy Hohn, State Senator for District 9, proudly representing residents of northwestern Sioux Falls, Hartford, and Wall Lake.
It has been a true honor to serve District 9 and to meet so many of you across our communities—an experience that has deepened my understanding of both the challenges and opportunities facing South Dakota.
People are the priority driving my service and are central to my values as a conservative Republican rooted in faith, family, and freedom. The people of District 9 deserve an open ear, a transparent process, and a strong voice in Pierre.
As a mom, wife, sister, neighbor, farmer, and pilot, I am driven by a servant’s heart and a deep sense of responsibility. After much prayer and reflection, I am seeking re-election because there is still important work ahead—experience, integrity, and faith-based leadership matter now more than ever.
During my first term, I took that responsibility seriously, knowing the votes I cast affect today and shape our future. Alongside a strong grassroots movement, we delivered real results:
- Protected property rights by stopping eminent domain abuse for CO₂ pipelines
- Defended taxpayers by opposing corporate tax giveaways
- Stood for family values, earning recognition from Family Voice Action
I also sponsored bipartisan SB 115, closing a loophole in South Dakota’s sexual-contact laws. The bill passed unanimously in both chambers—because protecting people should never be political.
As we look ahead, property tax reform, prison policy, public safety, and preservation of our energy and natural resources will be front and center. I’ve worked across party lines, asked hard questions, and held leadership accountable—because real leadership means listening, learning, and serving the people.
My goal has always been to represent the voices and values of our district while keeping the broader good of our state in view. I’m once again relying on the trust, prayers, and support of those who believe in servant leadership, accountability, and doing what’s right—even when it’s hard.

Joy’s most endearing quality is that she is genuine. A woman who already leads by commitment, hard work and sincerity is what District 9 and South Dakota deserve.
I’ve flown all over the country, and South Dakota is truly a special place. Its land, its communities and its people. We simply cannot compromise the values that have set us apart, to conform out of fear.
I believe in honoring the wisdom and experience of our elders that have laid the foundation of our freedoms and respecting the new ideas of younger generations that give us hope for the future.
A vote for Joy is a vote for a woman of strong principles who listens to our community and is dedicated to working hard and doing what is right. She is truly a grassroots candidate for the people of District 9.
Joy is a good neighbor: She is honest, trustworthy and cares about the people of her community. We know Joy will work very hard for the people of South Dakota.
Joy is a vote for South Dakota values. Her grit, honesty and strong work ethic will serve her well. She does her research and is a careful and deliberate communicator. Joy will get the job done for District 9 and the State of South Dakota.

Growing up on the farm and working in the fields, I learned responsibility, integrity, and the “Golden Rule” of respecting others. Agriculture is not just the heart of our livelihood but also the backbone of our communities and central to our state’s economy. Flying as a professional pilot has given me a front-row seat to the importance of commerce, innovation, and business to keep our state thriving.
While I have more to learn about the concerns of the both the urban and rural residents of District 9, I am eager to listen, learn, and earn your vote and would be honored to continue carrying your voice to Pierre.
