Jun 3, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hartford, South Dakota, June 3, 2026 – State Senator Joy Hohn of rural Hartford has won re-election to a second term representing South Dakota Senate District 9 in the Republican primary. District 9 includes northwestern Sioux Falls, Hartford, and Wall Lake.

“It has been a true honor to serve District 9 and the people of South Dakota as your State Senator,” said Senator Joy A. Hohn. “My priority is ensuring the voices of the people are heard and meaningfully considered through a balanced approach to decision-making. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving.”

Hohn, a commercial pilot and family farmer, was first elected in 2024 as a conservative Republican following nearly a decade of advocacy for property rights, transparency, and local control.

“To those who supported me, thank you for your confidence,” Hohn said. “I take this responsibility seriously, and I know the votes I cast affect today and shape the future.”

“To all the people of District 9, I will continue to listen, learn, earn your trust, and represent your voices in Pierre,” she said. “I encourage anyone with questions or concerns to reach out. I am always interested in hearing from you.”

A lifelong resident of Minnehaha County and graduate of West Central High School, Hohn grew up on a family farm near Hartford, where her family remains today. She was one of the first female airline pilots in South Dakota, logging nearly 13,000 flight hours. Hohn also works as a charter pilot, check airman, and instructor pilot for Legacy Aviation; and operates her private contract service, Adele Aire, LLC.

“As we move ahead, I rely on the trust, prayers, and support of those who believe in servant leadership, accountability, and doing what’s right, even when it’s hard,” she said. “Together, we can continue our work and keep South Dakota moving forward—with faith, courage, compassion, and conviction.”
