I first met Joy while caring for her elderly father. Long before she was my senator, I knew her as a devoted daughter who cared deeply about her family and the well being of others.
When my own family faced an unimaginable situation, I reached out for help. My daughter had been abused, and we discovered a loophole in South Dakota law that needed to be corrected. Joy listened. She took the time to understand what had happened, treated our family with compassion, and went to work to make a difference.
Through her leadership and determination, Senate Bill 115 was introduced and ultimately became law, helping close a dangerous loophole and better protect South Dakota children. What meant the most to me was knowing that Joy genuinely cared not just about legislation, but about the people whose lives were affected by it. I now call her a friend and mentor to myself and my children. She has went above and beyond and had continued to educate herself and others about dangerous loopholes in South Dakota Law that affect children throughout the state.
I have seen firsthand the integrity, compassion, and commitment that Joy brings to public service. She listens, she follows through, and she works hard for the people she represents.
For these reasons, I am proud to endorse Joy Hohn for re-election to the South Dakota Senate and encourage the voters of District 9 to support her continued leadership.
